Job Description Summary:
We are seeking a talented and driven AI Machine Learning Engineer to join PayPal’s nascent Strategic Generative AI Unit (“SGAU”). The SGAU’s charter is to orchestrate and facilitate adoption of Generative AI techniques and algorithms across enterprise business use cases by providing technical consulting as well as conducting applied R&D to explore building in house generative AI capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing and implementing machine learning and software engineering solutions across large enterprises, working to create the necessary engineering answers to integrate vendors’ LLM products or applications with PayPal’s infrastructure. In this role, you will work closely with Business Solutions Consultants, ML Scientists, and PayPal’s business units’ engineering teams to identify and address potential implementation problems. Key Responsibilities:
Identify and build the best performant solutions/models to solve specific business problems
Partner with PayPal’s business unit’s engineering teams to identify and address implementation issues for both internally and externally developed Generative AI LLMs and applications
Assist ML Scientist’s with conducting applied R&D to experiment with fine tuning of generative AI models for PayPal’s data sources and evaluate trade-offs in performance / cost vs equivalent vendor or open source capabilities
Stay up to date with the latest NLP/LLM generative AI techniques and trends
Present findings and recommendations to senior management
Requirements:
Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
Strong experience in developing and deploying machine learning solutions with a focus on NLP/NLU, LLMs and Generative AI 
Experience with programming languages such as Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch and NLP techniques and tools such as Hugging Face, OpenAI GPT models
Experience with cloud/big data technologies like GCP/AWS/Azure, Hadoop, Spark, Kubernetes.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with LLMs, Prompt Engineering, RLHF and other NLP and NLU techniques in financial services.
Knowledge of statistical methods and data modeling
Experience with Fintech and/or Financial Services industry
